Amanda Dawn Christie is a practicing interdisciplinary artist working in film, contemporary dance, photography, and electroacoustic sound design. For the past ten years Amanda has been actively serving on various boards of artist run centres, teaching workshops, publishing articles, and serving on juries across Canada. She completed a Master of Fine Arts degree at Simon Fraser University School for the Contemporary Arts in Vancouver, before moving to Amsterdam. After living in the Netherlands for a year, she has recently moved back to Canada where she currently works as a production supervisor at the Faucet Media Arts Centre & Struts Gallery.

Over the past few years, her experimental films have screened internationally including the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival (Czech Republic, 2008), the ExIs Experimental Film Festival (Seoul, South Korea, 2008), the Madcat International Women's Film Festival (San Fransisco, 2008), the 36th and 37th International Film Festival Rotterdam (2007 and 2008), Starting from Scratch Film Festival (Amsterdam 2007), Cine El Pocho (Oaxaca, Mexico, 2007), Ice Capades (Chicago, 2007), Antimatter Underground Film Festival (Victoria, 2007), Stem Cell Festival (Edmonton 2007), $100 Film Festival (Calgary 2008 and 2009) among several other festivals, and cinematheques.

Her experimental film practice is an extension of her photographic background and centres on hand-processing, optical printing, and other DIY strategies. She often works with re-photographing original footage, and manipulating images through complex optical and chemical processes.

Her current dance practice centres on an integration between body and the machine, exploring the physical links between bodily movement when operating analogue film equipment and sensuous memories that are triggered by those actions.

Her installation practice incorporates elements of film, photography, audio work, and performance. She is slowly beginning to incorporate basic electronics into her textile works, and into her more recent explorations of diorama construction.
