Megan Mylan is an American documentary film director, known for her films Lost Boys of Sudan and the 2008 Academy Award-winning Smile Pinki.

Mylan earned a bachelor's degree from the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service[1], and master's degrees in journalism and Latin American studies from the University of California, Berkeley.[2] She worked for Ashoka in Brazil before deciding to pursue documentary filmmaking.[3]

In 2003, Mylan and Jon Shenk directed Lost Boys of Sudan, a full-length documentary about two Dinka boys who fled the Sudanese civil war for the United States.

In 2008, Smile Train executives, who had been impressed with "Lost Boys", asked Mylan to direct a film about their efforts to provide cleft palate surgery in developing countries. Mylan was at first reluctant, thinking "I don't do PSAs", but was eventually persuaded to travel to Varanasi, India to direct Smile Pinki.[4][5] The resulting 39-minute film about a six-year-old Indian girl who receives cleft palate surgery through Smile Train, won the 2008 Academy Award for Best Documentary (Short Subject).

Mylan is currently working on a film on the struggle for racial equality in Brazil.[6]
