Mary Osborne has illuminated her name with a spirit and character so wonderfully appealing that it stands as a symbol unto itself. Her name, along with her activism and outreach efforts, has been synonymous with the burgeoning movement of women’s surfing during the past decade.

As an ambassador to the sport of surfing, Osborne traveled to China in the fall of 2010 to surf the tidal bore of Qiantang River, the world’s largest and fastest bore. Thousands of Chinese lined the banks of the river during the exhibition to watch Osborne become the first female to surf the natural phenomenon, a roaring river-wave with recorded heights nearing 30-feet. In Fall 2011 and 2012, Mary was invited back to surf the “Silver Dragon” bore and speak on China’s ”Action Sports Lifestyle” panel about her career and healthy living. In 2003, Osborne won the long boarding division in the MTV reality series, Surf Girls. Her infectious personality was suddenly broadcast to millions worldwide. Osborne began to barrel through the entertainment highway after she won 2003 Action Girl of the Year and was nominated for the 2003 Teen Choice Award, “Best Female Athlete.” She has since made appearances on Entertainment Weekly, the Tom Green Show, BBQ with Bobby Flay, Shred Cafe, The Daily Habit, worked as a host for FOX Sports Net, Go211.com, Maui Jim Sunglasses and various travel adventure shows. During this time, Osborne co-authored Sister Surfer: A Woman’s Guide to Surfing with Bliss and Courage. The book was, and still is today, a source of inspiration for women to catch their first wave. The book’s publication in 2005 coincided with the onset of Osborne’s philanthropic and environmental work. She has since teamed with a number of non-profits, engaging in a slew of public speaking events around the world in attempts to raise environmental activism.

She currently lives in Ventura, California where she writes for various publications, owns and operates Mary Osborne Surf Camps and Retreats, as well as owns Solymar Salon. In FAll 2012, Mary was was nominated Ventura County’s “Best Athlete” and Solymar, “Best Tanning Salon.”
