Idara Victor is an actress. Named for the Efik/Ibibio word for "Joy", Idara Victor was born in Brooklyn, NY, to a writer/accountant father, Stan Victor, and social worker mother, Barbara Victor (both from southern Nigeria). She is the middle child of three first generation Nigerian-American born girls. Growing up between Brooklyn and Long Island, with many summers spent in either London or Nigeria, she danced and played piano from the age of 6. She was entered into a pageant by an aunt at age 12 and won Miss Junior Teen New York.

She was then discovered by an agent at a fashion show commitment in Macy's of Herald Square, and was pushed towards a career in modeling, but having just done back to back productions of Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin In the Sun" and Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" with her 8th grade class, she decided she would rather pursue a career in acting. She continued to perform locally while her academic achievements led her to the Ivy League, being accepted into the undergrad program of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where she studied entrepreneurial management and marketing. While in college, she performed mini-plays with friends in parks all over Philadelphia, and studied acting privately. Upon leaving she returned to New York City where she studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, and quickly began working on Broadway and on various television shows, including New York City classics Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU.
