Pop celebrity Shakira is contributing $40 million from Latin America for Solidarity Foundation (ALAS) - which she co-founded with Nobel Prize winning author Gabriel Garcia Marquez to help rebuild areas hit by natural disasters. She says, "I've seen first-hand many of the challenges facing Latin America.
These are challenging problems that no one person can address, but working together everyone can help make a difference." The ALAS foundation will also invest $5 million into a three-year commitment project for children in the two regions. Now that's hot!
