One of six children of Milton and Charlotte Levine, both physicians, Ted Levine attended elementary school in Bellaire, Ohio, and later briefly attended Marlboro College in Vermont. He began his career as a stage actor in the early 1980s then expanding to television and movies later in that decade. His notable film roles include Starbuck in Moby Dick, (1998), Eli Cooperberg in You Can Thank Me Later (1999), and Silas Kincaid in Harlan County War (2000). More recently, he appeared in Birth and The Manchurian Candidate. He will appear in Memoirs of a Geisha this December and has been cast in the starring role of Big Bob Carter in a remake of Wes Craven's thriller The Hills Have Eyes, scheduled to come out in 2006.
