Raised in Paris, he began studying history at the University of Paris X-Nanterre , he leaves for training in acting Yves Pignot . In 1985 he obtained his diploma from the National Conservatory of Dramatic Art and became a resident at the Comedie-French .
After a first film alongside of Emmanuelle Beart , First desires , he turns in the direction of Agnes Varda and Pierre Jolivet . It is pointed out in 1987 Chouans! of Philippe de Broca , which is a great success for which he won the Cesar for Most Promising Newcomer in 1989. He picks up the second part of The King's Whore with Timothy Dalton in 1990 and a string of comedies and dramas.
In the 2000s , he alternated the cinema, the theater, which earned him several awards at Night Molieres and telefilms . He also lent his voice to the reading of some texts of literature, including poetry of Andree Chedid .
