Her parents’ names are Curtis and Floneva. She went to the Knott County Central High School, Hindman, Kentucky and after that studied at Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. In 1987 while being in high school she won the Miss Centralian title. At first she was a model, but then decided to have a career as an actress. She played in movies like "Scream 2", "Hercules", "Vanished" and "Beverly Hills 90210".

In 2001 she was involved in a car accident. She hit a nine year old child, who died the next day in hospital. Her sentence was three years probation, a one-year suspension of her license, a $2,800 fine and 750 hours of community service.
