Hugo Weaving was born on 4 April 1960, in Ibadan, Nigeria. He is a Nigerian-born British-Australian film and stage actor.

Weaving is the son of English parents, Anne and Wallace Weaving. His family returned to England when he was a year old, living in Bedford and Brighton before relocating to Melbourne and Sydney in. He attended the independent boarding school Queen Elizabeth’s Hospital while in England. While back in Australia, Weaving attended Sydney’s Knox Grammar School. Later on he graduated from Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art in 1981

As for his career, he appeared in 1984 Australian television series Bodylline, and later in the miniseries “The Dirtwater Dynasty”. In 1989 starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the film Bangkok Hilton. Weaving rose to fame in the hit P
riscilla, Queen of the desert in 1994.

One of his best performances was as Agent Smith in the 1999 blockbuster hit The Matrix. He later played in the sequels: The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Weaving garnered much popular attention in the role of Elrond in Peter Jackson's three-film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, released between 2001 and 2003. Weaving had the main role in Andrew Kotatko's award-winning 2004 film Everything Goes.

He starred as a heroin-addicted ex-rugby league player in the 2005 Australian indie film Little Fish, opposite Cate Blanchett. Later on Weaving played the title role as V in the 2006 film V for Vendetta, in which he was reunited with the Wachowski brothers, creators of The Matrix trilogy, who wrote the adapted screenplay.
