Danity Kane came from Diddy’s reality talent search for girl groups entitled: “Making the Band 3”. The five winners: Dawn Richard (August 5, 1983), Wanita Woodgette “D. Woods” (July 6, 1984), Aubrey O’Day (February 11, 1984), Aundrea Fimbres (June 29, 1983), and Shannon Bex (March 22, 1980), were then placed in one group which was given the name: Danity Kane, which was inspired by Dawn’s superhero creation/sketch in the studio while on break. Danity Kane is the third band to come out from “Making the Band”, with O-Town as the first winner and Da Band as the victor during the show’s second season.

Danity Kane was formed in 2005 and is a combination of pop, hip-hop, and R&B girl group, signed under the label of Bad Boy Records. Their debut album was self-titled and launched in 2006, and became very successful, specifically in the United States. Two of Danity Kane’s singles in their debut album: “Ride For You” and “Show Stopper” were both top 10 hits. "Show Stopper" features Yung Joc and has received incredible amounts of play over the Internet, even before the track was played over the radio. Other tracks that became crowd favorites include: “One Shot” and “Right Now”.

In 2007, from February to May, Danity Kane went on Christina Aguilera’s “Back to Basics Tour” and became the show’s opening act, together with Christina Aguilera herself, and the Pussycat Dolls. At the same time, Danity Kane also worked on their sophomore album which was supposed to be released in the same year, but in the end, was released in 2008. Danity Kane’s second album was launched in the month of March last year, and was called “Welcome to the Dollhouse”. Its lead single: “Damage” became another top 10 hit. The single’s music video also garnered two nominations in the MTV Video Music Awards for “Best Dancing in a Video” and “Best Pop Video”, but were beaten by the Pussycat Dolls’ “When I Grow Up” and Britney Spear’s “Piece of Me”, respectively.

Behind the scenes, even if Danity Kane has started gaining loyal fans, there was a big controversy and that was of the news that they were splitting up. One main reason is that O’Day has been acting differently, wanting to really create a separate image from that of the group. In this year’s season of the show “Making the Band”, only two group members: Fimbres, and Richard, appeared. The rest of the members did not show up, with O’Day admitting that she has not been invited to come back to the show. Just a few days ago, it has been confirmed that Fimbres has been released from her contract as well as the other girls, with the exception of Richard who is to remain with Bad Boy Records as a solo act.
