Bernie Williams was born on September 13, 1968 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He grew up in Puerto Rico with a love of both baseball and music. Williams decided to pursue baseball, but his love of music never wavered. In fact, Williams, a classical guitarist, released a major label album in 2003, The Journey Within.

At only 17 years of age Williams was signed as a free agent by the New York Yankees in 1985. He did not make his major league debut until 1991 due to the Yankees already having an established outfield. Williams did not last very long in the majors at first; he was demoted with only a .238 batting average. However, he started to make his mark in 1992, and by 1993 he was the Yankees’ regular center fielder. Williams quickly established himself as a proficient hitter from both sides of the plate and proved himself defensively by winning four straight Gold Gloves from 1997 through 2000. His career totals through 2006 (16 seasons, all with the Yankees) include a .297 batting average, 287 home runs, 2,336 hits, 1,257 RBIs, and 449 doubles. Although he has not officially retired, Williams, a five-time All-Star, did not play during the 2007 season.

Williams has also been known throughout his career as an excellent player in the playoffs. A four-time World Series champion and winner of the 1996 ALCS MVP, he has a career postseason batting average of .275 with 128 hits, 22 home runs, and 80 RBIs.
