Famous for Singing
Alfonzo Hunter is a singer. He is the first R&B artist to join the ranks of some of Hip-Hop’s greatest talent such as Redman, and Erick Sermon under the Def Squad Records label. Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1973, Alfonzo Hunter attributes his start in the music business to his mother. Beginning as a jazz saxophonist, later he began singing background vocals for R. Kelly. By 1996 he released his solo debut album titled “Blacka Da Berry.” With Erick Sermon producing 9 of the 13 tracks on the album, “Blacka Da Berry” gives the listener a serious jazzy, hip-hop, R&B groove. “Blacka Da Berry” is the single Hunter describes as an ode to all the dark-skinned women in the world.

He says, “I know a lot of sisters have a problem with videos that only use light-skinned women. I just feel that if that's all you're seeing, then you're missing half the picture." “Just The Way (Playas Play)” is the first single on the album giving us a peek into the party side of Alfonzo. Then displaying his softer side, he gives us a very personal look into his life with “Daddy’s Little Girl”; a song dedicated to Alfonzo’s pride and joy – his daughter.
